It has surfaced online that a smartphone manufactured by Xiaomi has received a certification from Chinese certification agency TENAA. The new Xiaomi device has a 6-inch display, and 3 storage, RAM variants. It is believed to be the Redmi S2.
According to online publication XDA Developers, there are three reasons indicating that this smartphone is the Redmi S2. Firstly, the certification code (M1803E6E) matches the smartphone’s internal codename in the firmware files that they had obtained (where “IS_EG” refers to the codename for the Redmi S2). Secondly, the TENAA listing matches the obtained Redmi S2 firmware files. Finally, the certification page indicates that the smartphone will be launched soon.

According to the listing, the phone will run Android 8.1.0 Oreo. It will be built on a 5.99-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) TFT display. It will have an 18:9 aspect ratio. The Redmi S2 will be powered by a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. The processor will be paired with Adreno 506 GPU.
The Redmi S2 will have a dual rear camera module. There will be a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486/ OmniVision OV12A10 primary sensor and a 5-megapixel Samsung S5K5E8 secondary sensor. The back camera will have a LED flash too. It will also have a PDAF lens supporting electronic image stabilization. The smartphone will also have a 16-megapixel front sensor.

The smartphone will have 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants of storage options (expandable via microSD card, up to 128GB). In terms of connectivity, the smartphone will support 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS/ A-GPS. The device will also have an infrared sensor. It will also have a rear-facing fingerprint reader.
The device will be backed by a 3,080mAh battery pack. It will available in Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Pink, Gray and Silver color options.
The only difference between the leaks by XDA Developers and TENAA listing is the battery capacity. The value listed in the firmware files may be listed as 100mAh higher than the one on certification websites.
For example, the battery capacity of the Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei mate 10 is advertised as 4,000mAh. But apps such as AIDA64 report the capacity as 3,900mAh for both devices. It due to the rated capacity as 3,900mAH, whereas 4,00mAh is the typical capacity of the battery.
The images on the TENAA listing shows that the device looks like the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The handset measures 160.73×77.26×8.1mm and weigh 170 grams.
The Chinese company hasn’t said anything about the launch of Redmi S2 yet. However, there have been speculations that it will launch in India and China first.
