Xiaomi has launched its new budget smartphone in India. The Redmi 5 was initially launched with 2GB RAM/16GB and 3GB RAM/ 32GB variants. Last month, the company added a new 4GB RAM variant with 32GB internal storage. All three variants have been made available in India. The new Redmi 5 is priced in India at Rs 7,999 for the 2GB RAM/ 16GB internal storage variant. While a 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage comes with a price tag of Rs 8,999, the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant will cost Rs 10,999. The new handset will be available via a weekly sale (starting March 20th) across Mi.com, Amazon and Mi Home stores. The company claims that the Redmi 5 will also be made available across all offline partners in the coming weeks.
As part of launch offers, customers can get an instant cash back (Rs 2,200) and 100GB additional data with Reliance Jio. Additionally, SBI credit card users will receive 5% instant discount.
In China, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 4GB RAM variant is priced atCNY 1,099 (approx Rs 11,000). While the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant is priced at CNY 799 (approx Rs 7,800), the 3GB RAM/ 32GB variant comes at CNY 899 (approx Rs 8,800).

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch display with HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels) resolution, 282ppi pixel density and a 72 percent NTScolorur gamut. It is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 processor and a 3300mAh battery.
In terms of optics, the Redmi 5 sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with a 1.25-micron pixel sensor, a f/2.2 aperture, PDAF (phase detection autofocus system), and LED flash.The 5-megapixel front camera comes with a soft-light selfie flash and Beautify 3.0 app, for improved portraits.
