Xiaomi has launched its latest smartphone, dubbed the Redmi Note 3 in the Indian market. It will compete with the likes of LeEco Le 1s and Honor 5X which carry nearly similar price tag.

Design

On design front, all these smartphones flaunt their unibody metal design which looks very premium. The Honor 5X has brushed metal design on the rear with slight curves towards edges while the Le 1s has similar design in matte finish. The Redmi Note 3 features slightly rounded edges and rear with matte design.

All three devices come with LED notification above the display. The Le 1s feels a bit heavy with 169 grams of weight compared to 164 grams weight of Redmi Note 3 and 158 grams weight of Honor 5X.

Processor & RAM

The Honor 5X is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor coupled with 2GB RAM and Adreno 405 GPU. LeEco Le 1s packs an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor clubbed with 3GB RAM and PowerVR G6200 GPU. The Redmi Note 3 on the other hand, comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor coupled with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM.

On testing the phones on An tu tu benchmarks, we got a score of around 75000 points for Redmi Note 3, 55300 points for Le 1s and 35800 points for Honor 5X.

Display

All three phones feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display with resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The displays are sharp and vivid, with good viewing angles.

Storage

Honor 5X houses 16GB of internal memory with expandable support up to 128GB using microSD card. The Le 1s offers 32GB of inbuilt storage but lacks microSD card support. Redmi Note 3 comes in two variants based on RAM and storage- one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory while other variant packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage. Both variants support microSD card via hybrid dual SIM slot.

Camera

Both Honor 5X and Le 1s sport a 13 mega pixel primary camera on the rear and a 5 mega pixel front facing camera. The rear camera of Honor 5X is accompanied with dual LED flash while le 1s comes with single LED flash and supports 4k video recording. Redmi Note 3 comes with a 16 mega pixel rear camera with dual LED flash and a 5 mega pixel front facing camera.

Battery

Redmi Note 3 is backed up by a mammoth 4050mAh non-removable battery with support for fast charging. The battery is good enough to survive for up to 3 days on light usage. Other two devices are fueled by non-removable 3000mAh battery and are good enough to deliver one full day of usage, if used moderately. LeEco Le 1s comes with USB Type-C port while other two devices feature micro-USB charging port.

Software

All three smartphones run Android Lollipop wrapped under their custom UI’s. The Le 1s runs Android Lollipop with EUI 5.5, Honor 5X runs Android Lollipop with EMUI 3.1 while Redmi Note 3 runs Android Lollipop with MIUI 7. All the three, are heavily skinned UI’s with a lot of customization options.

The Redmi Note 3 and Le 1s, both support USB OTG, but for Le 1s, you will require Type C USB pen-drive or Type C OTG cable or adapter. As for Honor 5X, the unit which we have got, didn’t support OTG, but some publications claim that it supports USB OTG.

Fingerprint Scanner

There is a fingerprint scanner on the rear of all these three smartphones for additional security.

Price

LeEco 1s is priced at Rs. 10,999 and the Honor 5X is priced at Rs. 12,999. The Redmi Note 3 is priced at Rs. 9,999 for 2GB RAM variant with 16GB of inbuilt storage and Rs. 11,999 for 3GB RAM variant with 32GB of inbuilt memory. It will go on sale starting March 9, 2016.

Verdict

All the three smartphones in this comparison, boast of their premium looks and top of the line specifications. Yet, with large battery, better camera combination and more, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has an upper hand in this comparison. It is closely followed by Honor 5X and LeEco Le 1s.
