Xiaomi has launched it’s much awaited Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones in China. The new handsets sport mostly similar design and specifications. The highlight of the new devices is an 18:9 display. While the Redmi 5 Plus comes with 3GB RAM/32GB and 4GB RAM/ 64GB variants, the Redmi 5 comes with 2GB RAM/16GB and 3GB RAM/ 32GB variants . The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is priced at CNY 999 (approx Rs 9,700) for the 3GB RAM/ 32GB internal storage variant. The 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant comes at CNY 1,299 (approx Rs 12,700). Whereas the Redmi 5 is priced at CNY 799 (approx Rs 7,800) for the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant. The 3GB RAM/ 32GB variant cmes at CNY 899 (approx Rs 8,800).
Both models will go on sale in China from December 12. As of now, there is no information about an Indian launch pr price.

Both devices sport identical specs, except the screen size, battery, and processor. While the Redmi 5 Plus is powered by a 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor and 4000mAh battery, the Redmi 5 sports a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 processor and a 3300mAh battery.
The Redmi 5 Plus sports a 5.99-inch display with full-HD+ (1080 x 2160 pixels) resolution, 403ppi pixel density and an 84 percent NTSC color gamut. Whereas the Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch display with HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels) resolution, 282ppi pixel density and a 72 percent NTSC color gamut.
Camera
Both smartphones feature similar camera setups. Both the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus sport a 12-megapixel rear camera with a 1.25-micron pixel sensor, a f/2.2 aperture, PDAF (phase detection autofocus system), and LED flash.The 5-megapixel front camera comes with a soft-light selfie flash and Beautify 3.0 app, for improved portraits.

The Redmi 5 Plus measures 158.5 x 75.45 x 8.05mm and weighs 180 grams. Whereas the Redmi 5 measures 151.8 x 72.8 x 7.7mm and weighs 157 grams. Both handsets come in multiple color options – Black, Gold, Light Blue, and Rose Gold. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The dual-SIM smartphones feature a fingerprint sensor on the back panel. Other sensors on the devices include the accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.
