As expected, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 has finally reached the Indian shores. The handset has been launched in India today, at an event in New Delhi. The registration for the handset will begin on Flipkart from 12th March 2015 at 6.00 PM while it will go on sale starting 24th March. Company has also announced the Limited Edition of Redmi 2 for India which will feature 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of inbuilt storage instead of 1 GB RAM and 8 GB storage. Xiaomi has launched its new smartphone Xiaomi Redmi 2 in China as the successor to Redmi 1S. 4G enabled, dual-SIM Xiaomi Redmi 2 is powered by 64-bit 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Cortex-A53 processor with Adreno 306 GPU coupled with 1 GB of RAM and runs on latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system with MIUI 6. It features a 4.7 inch HD IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and 312 ppi pixel density. It sports an 8 mega pixel rear with auto focus, LED flash and 2 mega pixel front-facing camera for capturing selfies and for making video calls.
It entails 8 GB of internal memory for storage purpose which is further expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card. It packs 2200 mAh lithium-ion battery which is claimed to deliver standby time of up to 2-3 days. Connectivity options include 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS , AGPS and GLONASS. Company also touts that the handset supports 4G connectivity on both the SIM card slots. Dimensions of this device are 134 x 67.21 x 9.2 mm with a weight of 133 grams. It will be available in White and Grey color options.

The predecessor of Redmi 2, namely Xiaomi Redmi 1S, is powered by 1.6 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, paired with 1 GB of RAM and runs on Android 4.3 operating system. It features 4.7 inch display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and sports an 8 mega pixel rear camera and 1.3 mega pixel front facing camera for making video calls and taking selfies. For storage, it comes with 8 GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 32 GB via microSD card and packs a 2000 mAh battery, while connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB.
