Chinese electronics and software company Xiaomi has slowly settled itself as a tech giant in Asia. So it is not surprising to learn that the company could be working on foldable mobile phones.

The mobile phone sector began with tiny feature phones. Then came smartphones with huge screens that worked with ease. Now we have bezel-less smartphones. The mobile phone sector always receives new demands, and they always seem to fulfill the demands.

Now there are demands for flexible display and foldable phones with futuristic concepts. Many smartphone manufacturers have already made plans for such ideas. Now according to a Xiaomi patent leaked by CNMO, it seems that the Chinese company will also give futuristic foldable mobile phones a try.

What Does The Patent State About Foldable Mobile Phones

The patent is titled as “connection mechanism for foldable mobile terminals and a foldable mobile phone”. It describes a mobile phone with two displays. It can be opened to form an angle of about 160-degrees. The mobile doesn’t flatten to 180-degrees, so which means these models will work like flip-devices.

The patent further elucidates a device with two housings, each with its own display panel, and connected by a bendable joint.

Patents don’t always indicate that a company is actively working on something, or that it will soon find its way into markets. Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun had recently revealed that the company holds over 6,300 patents, out of which 53% are trademarked outside the country.

It has already been widely reported that other tech giants like Samsung, Apple and Huawei are already working on foldable displays. So now even Xiaomi is trying to put a mark in the concerned sector with some plans. The company hasn’t said anything officialy about this leak, but could come up with something in the coming months.
