WhatsApp has started the rollout of a new Chat Lock feature for iOS and Android devices. Now you can hide your locked chats behind a secret code.

The new feature is designed to enhance privacy. You can easily hand over your phone to friends/ colleagues without worrying about sensitive conversations. Even if your phone falls into the wrong hands, they won’t be able to access your chats.

You can simply select a chat and lock it behind a password/ phrase. The hidden chats will not be visible in the main chat list unless you enter the secret code.

How To Hide Locked Chats On WhatsApp With Secret Code

• Open the list of locked chats and tap the three-dot menu at the top.
• Now, select Chat lock settings and toggle Hide locked chats.
• Then, enter a secret code.
• That’s it! Now your locked chats will not be visible in the main chat window.

Note: The new feature will show conversations protected by the Chat Lock feature after entering the secret code. However, they will only be visible until you exit the app.

Currently, WhatsApp shows a shortcut for locked chats. Simply swipe down on the chat screen to access these. You won’t have to enter individual chat settings to lock a chat. Simply long-press a chat to lock it.

You can revert to the original Chat Lock feature by disabling the Secret Code feature. Simply, open the locked chats with your secret code > tap the three-dot menu > Chat lock settings > toggle Hide locked chats off.

Conclusion

The new feature was announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. As of now, it is only available for iOS and Android devices. The Meta-owned platform has not offered a timeline for WhatsApp for Desktop as yet.
