Messaging platform WhatsApp has begun to roll out group audio calls feature for iPhone users. WhatsApp group audio call feature will facilitate users to make calls to multiple contacts through the app. Moreover, for Android users, the app has introduced a ‘Select All’ feature which lets a user mark all the new messages as archived or read in a single tap.
WhatsApp Group Audio Call Feature
The WhatsApp group audio call feature is being rolled out for iPhone users through an alleged server-side update. Android users can avail this feature through WhatsApp beta version 2.18.60 or higher.
This was reported by WABetaInfo. The design of group audio calls looks similar to individual audio calls. There are buttons to enable speaker, video call, and mute just below the profile pictures of the participants. The participant limits haven’t been revealed yet. It is allegedly available to select users only.
A WABetaInfo tweet mentions that the WhatsApp group audio call feature is being rolled out to only iPhone 2.18.60 users. This also received the ‘Request Account Info’ feature earlier.
This was first revealed by Mark Zuckerberg during Facebook’s F8 developer conference. He said, “Voice and video calling are very popular on WhatsApp, and we’re excited to share that group calling will be coming in the months ahead.”
Other Developments
WhatsApp group video calling has reached some users on both Android and iOS versions. According to a WABeta post. the Whatsapp group video calling feature has reached iOS in v218.52. Users won’t get this feature using an invitation system. It is also available on Android beta 2.18.145 and later versions.
It is not revealed when the Whatsapp group video calling feature will be available to every user. But it is expected to be rolled out around the world pretty soon. With WhatsApp group video calling feature, the platform will also offer support for stickers. Third-party developers will be able to offer ways to communicate within the app, something which Facebook has had for years.
