It is widely reported that messaging platform WhatsApp is now affected by two bugs. These WhatsApp bugs make the application crash or could even crash a smartphone totally. The first WhatsApp bug is veiled in a message. The message reads, “This is very interesting (emoji)…Read more”. The text doesn’t indicate at all that it contains something malicious. When a user taps on “Read More”, it freezes the application.
According to a Reddit post, the messages not always crashes WhatsApp, but also the entire device system leaking to restart the smartphone.
A video shows that bug freezes the application right away when a user taps on the “Read More” icon. Then a popup message follows which says WhatsApp isn’t responding. The bug affects both Android and iOS platforms. The bug’s link is available on Pastebin. The link can be copied and texted to other WhatsApp users.
The other WhatsApp bug message reads, “If you touch the (emoji) black point then your WhatsApp will hang”. If the black dot below the message is tapped, then the app crashes. This bug is speculated to only affect Android users.
It is being reported that the bugs don’t have any serious effects, and are more of a prank. However, it is best advised not to try it out of curiosity.
WhatsApp has had similar bug experience earlier. Recently a WhatsApp bug on the beta version caused a problem in the timestamps.
Earlier, on May 1st, 2018, Mark Zuckerberg announced during Facebook’s annual F8 developer conference that WhatsApp would soon be equipped with group video calling feature. During the conference, Zuckerberg announced a number of updates, including a new dating feature in the FB app. The updates are not only just for Facebook, but also for WhatsApp and Instagram. The WhatsApp group video calling feature will have groups of at least four being able to communicate together. Earlier the video calling feature could only be done between two parties.
