Sony has been going all guns blazing by launching some really good Android powered smartphones on the global frontier as well as India. India has been getting Sony smartphones before a lot of major markets and in sync with that, Sony has just launched their mid ranger, the Xperia SP in India for Rs.27,490 and the smartphone is expected to be available through brick and mortar stores by the third week of April 2013.
The smartphones has a 4.6 inch display which is of 720p resolution and is powered by a 1.7 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor which gets coupled with a Adreno 320 GPU. To supplement the processor, there will be a gig of RAM and the internal storage will stand at 8GB which can always be expanded via a microSD card by another 32GB. The specifications are great but the price tag seems a bit on the higher side.
The camera department is where the Xperia SP manages to score over other mid rangers. It has a 8 Megapixel camera which gets the X-Factor from the Exmor RS sensor which makes the pictures look crisp and clear. It comes with a LED flash and there’s a VGA camera present on the front for those self portrait shots, video calling and last minute vanity checks. So it’s got itself covered in the camera department.
It comes with a LED notification strip at the bottom which Sony calls the ‘transparent element’ which can change its colours according to the notification and can be customised as well. A nice touch is the option to set the illuminations going according to the beats of the music playing on your smartphone. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and the company has promised a Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update to it as well in future.
It has 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC to take care of your connectivity department. The device is powerd by a 2,370 mAH battery which seems good enough considering it has modest specifications. The device is good but a tad steeply priced according to us. Sony’s getting a bit too ambitious this time around.
