Micromax, Karbonn and all other Indian mobile manufacturers have been launching a wide range of Android based products for quite some time and those have even developed a certain liking in the minds of the people. The Micromax tablets for instance, are the second highest sold tablets in India after Samsung and Micromax seems to be catching up to that number 1 spot quite fast. But there’s another lesser known Indian mobile manufacturer that is slowly, yet steadily catching up to the Indian giants.
Simmtronics, an India based electronics and tablet manufacturing has just launched their first tablet device in the country, the XPAD X-720. As is the industry norm these days, it ships with Android 4.0 ICS and has a 7.0 inch capacitive display and the price is something which makes the device worth considering. Its launched at a very low price point of just Rs.4,600 and at this price point, it does not really have a competitor but the commercial version of the Aakash tablet being the sole competition.
For connectivity , it features only Wi-Fi and no SIM card but dongle connectivity for using 3G services. Xpad X720 is powered by a 1 GHz single core Cortex A8 processor . It has been solely manufactured in India and shall soon hit all your online retailing sites soon.Indrajit Sabharwal, managing director, on the launch event said, “In our strategy to reach out to our audience with most innovative products, we have launched XPAD X-720 which features Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 with capacitive multi touch screen. This tablet PC is packed with exciting applications to appeal the youth and deliver best gaming and computing experience to the users.”
Other specs include a 512 MB of DDR3 RAM, 4 GB internal storage and micro SD card which is compatible with cards up to 32 GB. It has a front facing VGA camera but no camera at the back of the tablet. It will be powered by a 2800 mAh battery which shall give it enough juice for 5-6 hours. The Indian manufacturers are trying their more than best when it comes to competing with the Global giants on their home turf. But the real life performance of the tablet remains to be seen and the After Sales Support and durability are the tests they’ll have to bear. Kudos to Simmtronics.
