Samsung the most attractive brand in India as per recent reports manufacturers gazillions of smartphones every undefinite time interval. They have flooded the Android market with their Galaxy offerings in smartphone, phablets and tablets category. Talking about this year, we have seen the flagship model Galaxy S4 and alike last time they have launched the mini version of it. Yes we are talking about Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini the lite version of the flagship Samsung Galaxy S4. We reviewed the Galaxy S4 earlier when it was launched and have couple of videos on our YouTube channel which you see. Recently we reviewed the S4 Mini having the same design alike every Galaxy smartphone. We have the results divided in sections below so you have to read know more.
Design:
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is thicker than the S4 with obviously a lower build quailty than the S4 and significantly smaller in size. It has a plasticky build with the overall design similar as Galaxy Series having a physical menu button in the center and two capacitive touch buttons on either side. It packs the basic set of accessories in the box like the data cable, wall charger, earphones. We have an unboxing video live which can be watched below to get a look of the device.
Display:
The 4.3-inch compared to 5-inch display obviously is smaller. Galaxy S4 Mini features a qHD display which has a resolution of 540×960 pixels lower than the 720p standard but it gives decent viewing angles and color reproduction because of the tehnology it is developed which is AMOLED. The display is the first good thing about the phone as you unbox it and try to use it.
Camera:
Rear Camera on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is 8MP with a LED flash and autofocus capability. It comes with differnt shooting modes alike the parent S4 but some of them are missing from the list. On the front we have a 1.9MP camera for video chats. The rear camera can shoot videos up to 1080p@30fps so theres nothing much to be talked about.
Hardware:
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini features a dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.7GHz with 1.5GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB internal memory but supports external microSD cards up to 64GB for memory expansion. It also supports dual SIM standby and is powered by 1900mAh removable battery. It also has the usual WiFi/Bluetooth/3G connectivity alike every other smartphone.
Software:
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini runs on Android 4.2.2 with Samsung TouchWiz UI layering. It also bundles some Samsung applications which might feel like bloatware if you are not using it. I don’t think I have anymore words to say about the Samsung TouchWiz because it has the same UI and applications as that of the S4.
Price:
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini comes for Rs. 22,000 in India from leading retail stores and factory outlets across the country and even from the online e-commerce sites like Flipkart.
Conclusion:
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is a lite variant of the parent Samsung Galaxy S4 which is a powerful device. This on the other hand is good for normal usage complying with the Dual-Core processor and 1.5GB of RAM. Memory is not an issue assuming you clear the user applications when you don’t use. Camera gives some satisfying results and display keeps up the name of its parent. For the price, we can get Galaxy S3 which according to me is a better device but if you want a dual-SIM smartphone in a handy form factor you might not look any further because this could be your destination. We shall rate it 3/5 comparing with the competitors in the market.
