Leaks and rumors about Samsung’s upcoming Note smartphone have started churning out the rumor mill. Succeeding last year Note 5, this year’s Note should be called Note 6, but there are some rumors which are hinting that it will be called Galaxy Note 7. Until the name of Samsung’s forthcoming Note series smartphone is confirmed, we will be referring to it as Galaxy Note 7. Read on to find out 12 things that we know of so far about the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Everything We Know So Far
Based on the rumors and industry reports, we share with you 12 things that we know about the upcoming Galaxy Note 7.
1. What Would Be The Next Note Called?
Considering that Samsung launched its Galaxy Note 5 last year in 2015 and Note 4 before that, Samsung’s upcoming Note series smartphone should be called Galaxy Note 6. But Samsung will be skipping the Galaxy Note 6 altogether and jump from Note 5 to Note 7. Perhaps the reason behind launching Note 7 is to make sure that the Note series lines up with the its latest flagship devices S7 and S7 Edge.
2. Design
The Galaxy Note 5 flaunts its all-metal build while the Galaxy Note 7 will look similar to Galaxy S7 Edge on design front, with the addition of S Pen. Moreover, over the last few months, there were rumors that it will arrive in two versions- a curved and a flat version, but recent reports suggest that there will be only a curved model of the phone.
3. Iris Scanner
The Galaxy Note 7 will come with an Iris scanner which is one most talked about rumor for Samsung’s upcoming Note smartphone.
4. Display
The Note 7 will come with Super AMOLED display like the predecessor but with a slightly larger size of 5.8-inches compared to 5.7-inch screen size of Note 5. The forthcoming Note smartphone will come with a 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display. It will also come with dual curved Edge display like the Galaxy S7 Edge.
5. Camera
The Note 7 will come with a 12 mega pixel primary camera with Super OIS Plus technology. Another leak suggests that it will pack dual camera set up on the rear. Whichever be the case, we expect the Note 7 to be equipped with one of the best camera combinations and receive a lot of praise like its predecessors.
6. Hardware Specifications
It will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 chipset or Exynos chipset depending on the region. The 823 chipset is said to support up to 8GB of RAM. The Note 7 will thus house either 6GB or 8GB of RAM which is acceptable, because it is Note after all. Also, Samsung’s upcoming Note with its RAM less than 6GB would not be very appealing, considering that many Chinese handset makers have already launched their flagships with 6GB of RAM. As for storage, it will come in a 256GB variant in addition to 64 and 128GB variants.
7. Battery
The upcoming Note will come with 4000-4200mAh battery which is again acceptable since Galaxy S7 and Galayx S7 Edge have also been launched with a huge battery bump over their predecessors.
8. Software
The Galaxy Note 7 will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface over the top. However, with Android N launch around the corner, the upcoming Note could also run the same.
9. IP68 Certification
The forthcoming Note will also come with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
10. Additional Features
Next is that the Galaxy Note 7 will be equipped with USB Type-C which was missing on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. When even budget smartphones are coming with USB Type-C support, it is imperative for Samsung to ditch micro-USB and bring its upcoming Note with USB Type-C. Samsung equipped its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge with micro-USB port which is compatible with the Gear VR. However, with the new USB Type-C port, the company may also bring a new VR headset. Some other features like Always On display and support for S pen are pretty obvious for the upcoming Note.
12. Pricing and Availability
As per the leaked invites, Samsung’s next Note is slated to be launched on 2nd August 2016, which means that it will go on sale sometime in September. As for pricing, it is likely to be priced nearly the same as the Galaxy Note 5 or it may be priced slightly higher than that.
These are the 12 hours that we know so far about the Galaxy Note 7. We cannot confirm the accuracy of these points but as these leaks come from reliable sources, we have no reason to not to believe them.
What these leaks suggest is that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will arrive with better specs and features compared to the Note 5. It will offer faster processor, better camera, more RAM and an Iris scanner.
