Features

  • Display hole
  • DAC audio
  • Infinity-O display
  • USB Type-C support
  • Gradient color option

The Galaxy A8s is said to be the first Samsung model to come without a 3.5mm headphone jack. The company is expected to choose a digital-to-analogue (DAC) converter to offer a premium audio experience (similar to HTC and OnePlus).

The smartphone measures 159.11 x 74.88 x 7.38mm and comes in Black-Grey gradient color option. Additionally, it is tipped to come with USB Type-C support.

Display

Samsung seems to be working on an interesting solution for full-screen smartphone displays. The South Korean giant is ditching the display notch (popularised by Apple). Instead, the Galaxy A8s will come with a hole at the front.

The display hole is likely to offer the room for the front camera along with an ambient light sensor and a proximity sensor. This will allow the company to offer a truly edge-to-edge display experience. Apart from an ultra-thin bezel display, the upcoming smartphone will come with a ‘first-time adoption’ technology.

The Infinity-O panel is said to be made by the Chinese display maker BOE. The company is currently manufacturing 6.39-inch OLED display for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

According to recently leaked renders, a 6.7mm hole will be drilled into the display to accommodate the sensors. The Galaxy S10 is also tipped to sport a similar design (with a smaller 2-3mm cutout).

Conclusion

Recently, Samsung launched the triple and quad camera smartphones. While the Galaxy A7 (2018) sports a triple rear camera setup, the Galaxy A9 (2018) comes with a quad rear camera setup. Previously, the company launched brought multiple curved displays in its devices.

While the camera hole will help the Galaxy A8s deliver a full-screen experience, it will be interesting to see that how apps and interface would work. Recently, few smartphone devices opted for a tiny waterdrop-style display notch over the iPhone-like traditional notch. We will have to wait a see how much improvement does the new Samsung design brings.
