Jolla, a startup based out of Finland, comprising of ex employees of Nokia working on MeeGo OS, have launched their first Sailfish OS based smartphone in India exclusively through Snapdeal. Taking its cues from MeeGo operating system, it functions entirely through gestures and there are no onscreen buttons. It takes a very fresh approach towards the user experience and also supports Android apps. The smartphone comes with an screen design which means there are no buttons on the device. It also functions via gestures and shortcuts like Swipe, Peek and Pull. The company also focuses on the fact that they ship the smartphone with zero bloatware (which is a nice plus!). Also, Sailfish OS comes with native support to run Android apps without direct access to Google Play Store. It relies on Aptoide, Yandex and Amazon App Store for this purpose. Another highlighted feature of the device comes in the form of replaceable back covers called “The Other Half” which essentially changes the look and sound profile of the device.
After sales support, which is a major concern for any new smartphone maker’s target audience is handled by HCL Touch in 7 cities.

While providing a mid range specification set at a price of Rs. 16,000, the Jolla smartphone offers a revamped UI and OS experience. It may not ravel iOS and Android in terms of App ecosystem but it takes a fresh take on the mobile OS. Much like Windows Phone, it offers a fluid and lag free experience.
