Chinese consumer electronics company Oppo has been accused of allegedly cheating benchmark scores. The accusations have risen in relation to their latest smartphone. A Vietnamese blog named Genk has accused that Oppo F7 cheats benchmarks by allegedly clocking the speed of its eight cores to the maximum 2GHz. It enables the benchmark scores to be better.
Oppo F7 is the only smartphone in the market to possess the MediaTek Helio P60 SoC. In every online benchmark, the chipset has been scored better than the Snapdragon 660 SoC or Snapdragon 636 SoC smartphones.

The MediaTek Helio P60 SoC chipset was revealed at the Mobile World Congress in February 2018.
The Vietnamese publication ran the popular benchmark test on the smartphone and Xiaomi’s Mi 6X Snapdragon 660. The blog made a ‘Hello World’ application with the application package named as ‘com.AnTuTu.ABenchMark.’ The publication ran the sample application. It was run without a single line of code. All the eight cores pushed to the maximum of 2GHz. Thereby, it adhered that Oppo F7 cheats benchmarks.
Moreover, even in other benchmark tests like Geekbench 4 multi-core and PCMark Work 2.0, the smartphone defeated its competition. In the Geekbench 4 multi-core test, Oppo F7 received a score of 5848. The Mi 6X got a score of 4960. The Redmi Note 5 Pro managed a 4925 score.
Only when a user opens the benchmark application, then the smartphone’s CPU speeds rise to 2GHz. It is also the highest its chipset can clock at. But once the user exits the application, the speed clocks to 793MHz. According to the blog, this is how Oppo F7 cheats benchmarks.
According to experts and critics, the MediaTek Helio P60 SoC is most probably the best MediaTek chipset ever made. Moreover, it seems to be enhancing the phone as a whole.
Similar Incident Earlier, And Company’s Response
The “Oppo F7 cheats benchmarks” incident is not something new in the smartphone industry. Earlier Oppo’s child company, OnePlus was caught of cheating benchmarks with its OnePlus 5T. The company also accepted the accusations.
The main issue with this incident is that Oppo didn’t really need to cheat the benchmark tests, as its chipset is pretty good and powerful. Moreover, Oppo responded to the blog’s accusations. The company mentioned that its NeuronPilot AI backed with APUs enables the chipset to perform terrifically, and thereby beating its competitors. For more information, click here.
