Nokia has unveiled its first high-end Android smartphone in India. The new Nokia 8 comes with a premium all-metal design, Carl Zeiss dual camera setup and stock Android OS. The Nokia 8 is priced in India at Rs 36,999. It will be available from October 14 via Amazon India and multiple retail outlets. On the other hand, the OnePlus 5 with 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage is priced at Rs 32,999. While the 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage variant of OnePlus 5 costs Rs 37,999.

The Nokia 8 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor along with 4GB RAM and Adreno 540 GPU. The 64GB internal storage can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. The new handset comes with an innovative heat management solution with a full-length graphite shielded copper cooling pipe. It is backed by a 3090mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
The OnePlus 5 also comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Soc. It comes in two variants – 6GB RAM/ 64GB internal storage one and a 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage variant. The 3,300mAh battery supports Dash Charging feature.
Camera
The Nokia 8 sports a ZEISS powered dual camera setup with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and a dual-tone flash. It combines a 13-megapixel RGB (color) primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 13-megapixel secondary monochrome (black and white) sensor. Both cameras come with f/2.0 aperture. The 13-megapixel front camera also comes with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and display flash.
On the other hand, the dual camera on the OnePlus 5 combines a 16-megapixel primary lens (1.28-inch sensor with f/1.7 aperture and EIS) with a 20-megapixel (1.28-inch sensor with f/2.6 aperture) telephoto lens. The camera setup comes with a 1.6x optical zoom, phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), and 4K video recording capability. The 16-megapixel front camera also comes with a f/2.0 aperture, EIS, Auto HDR and full-HD video recording.

Features
The Nokia 8 is the first smartphone to offer ‘Dual-Sight’ video (also called ‘bothies’ feature). It allows you to use the front and rear camera at the same time in a split screen view. It works for both photos and videos. The new handset has been optimised for one-touch live-streaming via Facebook Live and YouTube Live.
It also comes with OZO Audio tech for a 360 degree fully immersive audio experience. The new smartphone uses three microphones and Nokia’s acoustic algorithms to capture 360-degree spatial surround sound. You can also share 4K videos with OZO audio.
Design & Display
The OnePlus 5 sports a sleek design which looks similar to the iPhone 7 Plus. The new handset is quite thin at just 7.25mm and sports a dual camera setup on the back (upper-left corner). On the other hand, the Nokia 8 sports an all-metal design made from a single block of aluminum. It is just 4.6mm thick at the edge. A USB Type-C port and dual speakers are placed on the bottom edge. A fingerprint sensor is embedded into the home button.
The Nokia 8 features a 5.3-inch IPS LCD display with a Quad HD resolution, 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5, 700Nits of maximum brightness and Nokia’s trademark Glance Screen. On the other hand, the 5.5-inch AMOLED screen on OnePlus 5 comes with a full HD (1,920 x 1,080pixels) resolution.

Verdict
The OnePlus 5 is a more powerful smartphone with a better processor and double RAM option. Additionally, it offers better battery life. However, it lags behind in terms of display. The Nokia 8 offers similar specs with an additional ‘Dual Sight’ feature in the same price range. While Nokia does have a nostalgic advantage, it remains to be seen if Nokia 8 will be that breakthrough device for the brand. Which of the two devices will you go for?
