Motorola has launched its new smartphone Motorola Moto E (Gen 2). The new Moto E has been launched in 3G and 4G variants, however only 3G variant has been announced for India as of now. The 3G variant will be available to buy at Rs. 6,999 exclusively through Flipkart in the coming days. The 4G variant is priced at $150 (around Rs 9,300) and will be available in select markets. Processor & RAM
Although both the 3G and 4G variants of 2015 Moto E are pretty much similar in their specifications, this is one of the fronts where they differ. The 4G variant of new Moto E features Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Soc while 3G variant comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset, both feature Quad-core CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz. The Moto E (2014) is powered by Dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset clocked at 1.2 GHz. All the three handsets house 1 GB of RAM. 4G Moto E packs Adreno 306 GPU while other two devices features Adreno 302.
Operating System & Display
Both the variants of Moto E (2015) run on Android 5.0 Lollipop while Moto E (2014) runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system.
First generation Moto E features a 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen display while Moto E (2015) sports a 4.5 inch qHD display. Screen resolution of all the three handsets is 540 x 960 pixels, however 245 ppi pixel density of new Moto E is slightly lower than 256 ppi pixel density of the older version.
Storage & Camera
2014 Moto E houses 4 GB internal storage. Both 2015 variants entail 8 GB of in-built storage. Expandable storage of all the three devices is 32 GB.
New Moto E devices sport a 5 mega pixel rear camera and a 0.3 mega pixel front facing camera. 2014 Moto E features a 5 mega pixel camera and lacks a front camera.
Battery & Connectivity
New Moto E packs a bigger 2390 mAh battery as compared to 1980 mAh battery of predecessor. New Moto E has been launched in both 4G and 3G variants while the first generation Moto E features 3G only. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS and Micro-USB are the standard connectivity options on all the three handsets.
Price
The 2014 Moto E is retailing at Rs. 5,999. The 3G variant of new Moto E is priced at Rs. 6,999 and will be available exclusively through e-commerce portal Flipkart in coming days. 4G variant is priced internationally at $150 which translates it to around Rs 9,300, details about its availability in India are not known yet.
Verdict
The Moto E (Gen 2) comes with a number of upgrades over its predecessor. Besides 4G LTE support, it features better processor, bigger battery, bigger display and a front camera which is absent in the predecessor. The 3G variant bears a price tag of Rs. 6,999 which is the same price at which the Moto E 2014 was retailing at the time of its launch. Now what is to be seen is the pricing of new Moto E with 4G support in India. As per the international price, we expect it to be priced nearly at Rs. 9,000 which means the handset will certainly face tough time competing with other LTE enabled handsets in India.
