Micromax Dual 5: Details & Hands On Review [With Video]

Micromax has launched its latest smartphone in the Indian market, called the Micromax Dual 5. The phone, as the name suggests, sports dual 13 mega pixel cameras on the back. Design

The Micromax Dual 5 boasts all metal body with 2.5D curved glass on the front. The phone looks and feels very premium. The chamfered edges of the phone make it look even more elegant. It is curved from the back and fits comfortably in the hand.

Above the 5.5-inch display on the front, you get earpiece, sensors and 13 mega pixel front camera.

Volume rocker and power button are located on the right edge.

Left edge houses hybrid dual SIM card tray and a dedicated camera key.

USB Type-C charging port, speakers and primary microphone are placed on the bottom edge.

On the top, there is a 3.5mm audio jack along with IR blaster.

On the rear, you get dual 13 mega pixel cameras along with dual-tone LED flash, secondary mic, fingerprint sensor and Micromax logo. It features a fingerprint scanner that comes with quick response time of 0.35 seconds with the identification angle of 360-degree. During our time with the phone, the fingerprint sensor unlocked the phone quickly and accurately.

Display

The Dual 5 features a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED 2.5D curved display with 1920×1080 pixels resolution. The screen is protected against scratches by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display is very vivid and viewing angles are also good.

Camera

As mentioned above, the smartphone sports two 13 mega pixel rear cameras with dual-tone LED flash. While one camera has a traditional RGB sensor that takes color photos, the other has a monochrome sensor and only captures in black and white. Two cameras on the back let the phone capture 4 times more light than a normal single lens camera phone.

The camera app offers various modes such as Pro Mode, Slow Shutter, Macro Mode and Anti Haze. You also get an option to capture blurry shots with ‘bokeh effect’ in which the focus remains on the subject while everything else is blurred out. You also get Beauty mode with 7 different levels. The images taken with the rear camera come out to be great. The detailing and color reproduction are excellent.

There is also a 13 mega pixel front facing camera which comes with a soft selfie flash that helps capture enhanced selfies even in poor lighting conditions. The front camera also performs really well and produces great selfies.

Hardware & Software

At the heart of the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor coupled with Adreno 510 GPU. The phone houses 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. On the software front, it runs Android operating system. The UI is smooth and user friendly. The phone comes with IR blaster that lets users control compatible devices such as TV, Home Theatre System and ACs.

The Dual 5 is touted as one of the most secure phones as it comes with a dedicated hardware security along with the software security features. To prevent hacking, the phone encrypts and saves all the user credentials and security passwords in the dedicated security hardware chip. You get two profiles in the phone- private and public. It also features a safe switch that ensures that no one else can unlock the phone or shut it down without a password.

Battery & Connectivity

Armed with a 3200mAh battery, the device supports Quick Charge 3.0 and easily survives for a day on moderate usage. With just 10 minutes of charge, the company claims it to deliver up to 4 hours of usage. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type-C.
