According to the reports making rounds on the Internet, the Micromax is set to unveil its latest Android flagship under Canvas branding i.e. Canvas 5. It is tipped to run CyanogenMod OS out of the box (like the OnePlus One) which makes it the first Indian manufacturer to adopt CyanogenMod as the primary OS. Read on to find out the expected specifications and pricing details.
Hardware
The hardware of the Canvas series has always been powerful. While it can’t compete with the processing power of Snapdragon 801/805 based Krait CPUs, it certainly offers a great value for money and a very potent CPU/GPU performance for the price.
Canvas 5 is rumoured to have:
- 5 inch Full HD 1080p display unit
- MediaTek Octa-Core processor
- 2 GB RAM
- 16 GB Onboard Storage with MicroSD Expansion
- 18 MP Primary Camera with LED Flash
- 5 MP Front facing camera
Software
On the software front, the CyanogenMod will come preloaded on the device based on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat. The plus side of an Android smartphone natively running CyanogenMod is the frequent updates available to the latest version of Android (and the latest features too). Manufacturers take various weeks/months to push the update to many devices, therefore it directly affects the user experience. Also, various CyanogenMod exclusive functions like the Theme Engine and changing various elements of the UI opens the door to endless customisation options to the consumers.
Pricing
The device is tipped to launch with a price tag of Rs. 22,000.
The release date of the device is not yet certain but the fact that CyanogenMod powered OnePlus One is about to enter the Indian market well before 2015 should set Micromax in action.
