LeEco has launched the successor of Le 1s, called the Le 2, in the Indian market. The LeEco Le 2 comes with a lot of upgrades over the predecessor. It will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Yu Yunicorn which are available in the same price segment. In this post, we have pitted the three smartphones against each other. Design
All the three smartphones flaunt their all metal design. The stunning metal design of all the three phones looks very premium in hand. Compared to Redmi Note 3, the Yunicorn is flatter on the rear. Le 2 has chamfered edges while Redmi Note 3 has slightly more curved rear and rounded edges.
Display
All the three smartphones feature 5.5-inch full HD displays with 1080p resolution. The Yunicorn additionally comes with 2.5D glass. The displays of all the three smartphones are bright and sharp. Viewing angles and sunlight legibility are also good.
Camera
The Le 2 and Redmi Note 3 sport a 16 mega pixel camera on the rear with dual LED flash and PDAF. The Yunicorn comes with a 13 mega pixel primary camera. The LeEco Le 2 packs an 8 mega pixel secondary camera while other two phones sport a 5 mega pixel front facing camera. Both Le 2 and Redmi Note 3 take great shots in well-lit and low-light conditions. Although the rear camera resolution of Yu Yunicorn is lower than its rivals, yet the quality of images taken with it is very good.
Hardware Specs
The LeEco Le 2 is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 comes with a hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor while Yu Yunicorn packs an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM.
Redmi Note 3 comes in two variants based on RAM and storage- one with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage while other variant packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage. The Le 2 and Yu Yunicorn house 32GB of internal memory. Le 2 users will have to confine their storage to 32GB as the phone doesn’t support expandable storage. Yu Yunicorn, as well as both variants of Redmi Note 3 support expandable storage via microSD card.
Software
On software front, the Le 2 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped under EUI 5.8, Redmi Note 3 runs Android Lollipop wrapped under MIUI 7 and Yunicorn runs Android on Steroids which is close to stock Android. Interfaces of all three smartphones are clean and user friendly.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Yu Yunicorn are backed up by massive 4000mAh battery while LeEco Le 2 comes with 3000mAh battery. Redmi Note 3 and Yunicorn come with a hybrid dual SIM slot while Le 2 offers just two SIM card slots and lacks a microSD card slot. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
Additional Feature
All the three devices feature a fingerprint sensor for additional security. The Le 2 and Redmi Note 3 sport fingerprint scanner below the camera on the rear of the phone, Yu Yunicorn has its fingerprint sensor located below the display. Fingerprint scanners of all three devices are quiet fast and accurate. Le 2 and Redmi Note 3 also come with an IR Blaster which is missing on Yu Yunicorn. The Yunicorn comes with a monochrome mode that enables users to read as much as they want to without really straining their eyes.
The LeEco Le 2, on the other hand, is the world’s first phone to feature a USB Type-C audio port instead of 3.5mm audio jack. It also features Continual Digital Lossless Audio (CDLA) technology for high quality and lossless audio.
Price
The LeEco Le 2 is priced at Rs. 11,999 and it comes with 1 year LeEco membership worth Rs. 4,900. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 carries a price tag of Rs. 9,999 for 2GB RAM version and Rs. 11,999 for 3GB RAM variant. The Yu Yunicorn is priced at Rs. 13,499 and it will be available at a special price of Rs. 12,999 for the first month.
Verdict
The specifications and features of all the three devices match closely. The Yunicorn certainly has more RAM but at the same time, it carries a hefty price tag as well. Both LeEco and Redmi Note 3 are priced the same at Rs. 11,999. While Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 offers expandable storage and more battery capacity, the Le 2 offers a better front camera as well as Continual Digital Lossless Audio (CDLA) technology for high quality and lossless audio.
