Micromax Canvas HD A116 had the first mover advantage in the Indian market when it was the first quad core smartphone on a budget in the country but it went out of stock as soon as it went on sale. Amidst all this, companies have started to launch their quad core devices and Micromax’s arch rival, Karbonn has launched their 5 inch quad core smartphone, the Karbonn Titanium S5 at a price of Rs.11,990 exclusively through snapdeal.com for the time being and yes, it is in stock.
The S5 will flaunt a 5 inch screen which will have display resolution of 960×540 pixels. And this is the only difference between it and the Micromax flagship. The A116 has a screen of 720p resolution but if you consider the price difference, the Karbonn smartphone makes for a better buy. Its heart will be a 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm which is expected to perform better than the Mediatek processor found in other budget quad core smartphones.
Video Review
The smartphone will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box and will get a primary as well as a dual camera. The primary camera will be an 8 megapixel camera whereas the secondary camera will be a 2 megapixel one. It will have 1 GB of RAM and it will put a rest to the complaints of the people who have literally whined about the 512 MB RAM in budget smartphones. The device gets a 2,000 mAH battery which shall last a little over a day with moderate usage.
It will have 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for connectivity and will come with dual-sim functionality. One of the sim cards can support 3G whereas the other one will support 2G networks. Karbonn has launched another budget quad core smartphone, the S1 for Rs.10,290 which loses out on some of premium features the S5 gets. The S5 misses out on the HD screen, but makes up for that with a better processor. Kudos to Karbonn.
