The new Mute button (in notifications panel) is now live for WhatsApp Android beta version 2.18.216. Currently, beta users can test out the new feature. A wider public rollout is expected to take place soon. Users with WhatsApp Android beta users can already try the new feature. Here’s How To Mute WhatsApp Notifications Without Opening The App:
- Download and install WhatsApp beta version 2.18.218 via the Google Play beta programme or in an APK file form via APK Mirror.
- Open the notifications shortcut.
- You will find a new ‘Mute’ button next to the ‘Reply’ button.
- Click on this button to mute notifications from certain users.
Note: The ‘mute’ button only appears if you receive more than 51 messages from one contact.

Additional Features
In addition to the ‘Mute’button, WhatsApp is also testing a ‘Mark as Read’. The new feature will allow users to mark a message as read directly from the notifications center. Again, you wouldn’t need to open the app.
WhatsApp Stickers feature is also available for WhatsApp Android beta version 2.18.218. It allows users to access Stickers while messaging contacts. A ‘WhatsApp Sticker’ icon will be added next to ‘GIF’ button on the keyboard. The new feature was initially announced at the Facebook F8 conference earlier this year.
Third-party stickers will also be a part of the sticker portfolio. The addition of new sticker packs (within the WhatsApp Sticker Store) will be highlighted with a green dot on the plus button. Additionally, users can update a particular sticker pack via an ‘Update’ button.
