‘Camera’, has nowadays, become a vital factor for buyers to look for while buying a smartphone. Due to the ease of usability of smartphones, we avoid carrying our digital cameras with us and rely on our smartphones instead, to capture images.
Smartphone makers thus, are trying to incorporate best cameras into their smartphones, so that users can take images with great detailing and clarity like a standalone camera. Example of one such smartphone maker is Huawei’s e-brand, Honor, which has launched its Holly 2 Plus smartphone with stunning camera capabilities. We spent few days with the phone and here is our detailed Honor Holly 2 Plus camera review.
Honor Holly 2 Plus Camera Review
Holly 2 Plus succeeds the Honor Holly which was launched in India in 2014 and comes with improved specifications and camera features to entice photography lovers. While the predecessor Honor Holly sports an 8 mega pixel camera on the rear and 2 mega pixel camera on the front, the Holly 2 Plus has been pumped up with a better camera combination.
Holly 2 Plus sports a 13 mega pixel primary camera with single LED flash and f/2.0 aperture. There is also a 5 mega pixel front shooter onboard. Both cameras take great images with a lot of detailing and clarity. The handset gives crisp low-light images with great contrast levels.
The camera UI is very simple and quick. A person need not be a professional to click images using this phone. Even an amateur can capture decent images with this device.
On launching the camera app, the top row shows flash, camera swap and options button. The bottom row allows you to choose from Beauty, Photo and Video modes. Below it, there is another row with some more options- previous photos, shutter and filters such as- Aqua, Posterize, Blackboard, Whiteboard and Sepia among others.
Users can take images in panorama mode, HDR mode and it also allows users to add watermark and audio note. By tweaking the camera settings, you can change the resolution, switch On/Off GPS tag, adjust the white balance, adjust image exposure, saturation, contrast and brightness and more. It allows users to capture images by pressing the volume button. The Holly 2 Plus is very quick at capturing images and doesn’t show any lags or stutters but we did face some focussing issues. The Holly 2 Plus also allows users to shoot videos in 720p resolution.
The 13 mega pixel rear camera takes stunning shots in normal lighting conditions. Images have good contrast and detailing. The shots taken in tricky lighting conditions however, are not that impressive. We cannot complain about it, as we hardly get good cameras smartphones in this price range.
Let’s not forget the 5 mega pixel front shooter of the device. The front facing camera comes with wide angle lens and gives excellent quality selfies.

Verdict
The Holly 2 Plus is a perfect combination of decent hardware, software and impressive camera capabilities. If you are a photography lover and want the features of camera in a smartphone, then Holly 2 Plus is apparently the best smartphone for you in this price range. Besides great camera combination, it also flaunts its massive 4000mAh battery. At price point of Rs. 8,499 at which the Holly 2 Plus retails, it is hard to recommend any other smartphone.
