Gionee has launched its latest smartphone- Gionee Marathon M5 Plus, in India. It is an upgraded variant of Gionee Marathon M5. Like the older sibling, the USP of the Marathon M5 Plus is its battery. It is backed up by a massive 5020mAh battery and is suitable for all those buyers whose primary concern is battery life.

Design

It features an all metal unibody design which looks very premium and stunning in hand. The rear panel of the phone is non removable which means that users cannot access the battery of the phone.

On the front, there is a 6-inch full HD display. Above the display, there is a 5 mega pixel front shooter along with earpiece and LED notification.

Below the display, there are touch capacitive navigation buttons along with physical home button. It comes with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the home button for additional security.

On the rear, there is a 13 mega pixel primary camera with dual LED flash, secondary mic, Gionee logo, Gionee branding and speaker mesh.

The speakers of the phone are loud and clear and support DTS sound.

On the bottom edge, there is USB type C port along with microphone and 3.5mm audio jack.

It comes with a 6-inch full HD AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and 2.5D arc glass for smooth touch and swipe experience. The display is very sharp and vivid with good viewing angles. The sunlight legibility of the screen is also nice.

Camera

The Marathon M5 Plus sports a 13 mega pixel rear camera with dual LED flash and PDAF. There is also a 5 mega pixel front facing camera. The cameras of the phone take impressive shots with good detailing and clarity. All the shots taken in natural light, low light and artificial light come out to be nice.

Hardware & Performance

The Marathon M5 Plus is powered by 64-bit 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor paired with Mali-T720 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It comes with 64GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. It scores around 37000 points on Antutu benchmarks.

This phone handles multitasking with ease, but we faced some lag issues while playing heavy games like Frontline commando 2 and Asphalt 8.

Software

On software front, it runs Android 5.1 Lollipop wrapped under Amigo OS 3.1. The phone comes with a lot of bloatware but users can get rid of most of it. The software is smooth and responsive and comes with features such as Child Mode that allows users to save the apps and phone from getting disturbed when children play with their phone. It also comes with Mood Card and Theme Park apps that allow users to choose from a variety of wallpapers and themes respectively.

Battery & Connectivity

It is backed up by a massive 5020mAh battery which is claimed to survive for up to 2 days on single charge. Moreover, the phone supports fast charging and it can be charged from zero to 100 percent in 117 minutes.

Connectivity options include 4G support with VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The fingerprint scanner of the phone is pretty fast and accurate.
