The normal edition Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 starts at 3,299 yuan (approx Rs 32,300), while the Special Edition will cost you 4,699 yuan (approx Rs 46,000). Whereas the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been launched in India at a price of Rs 67,900.
While the Galaxy Note 8 bears a significantly larger price tag, it will be available from September 21 for users who pre-book the device. On the other hand, there isn’t an Indian launch date or price for the Mi MIX 2 as yet. The normal edition will be available in China from September 15. The special edition will come in November this year.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 8895 processor along with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage (expandable). On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC along with 6GB RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The special edition of the Mi smartphone comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.
The Galaxy Note 8 is backed by a slightly smaller 3,330mAh battery, compared to the 3,400mAh battery on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.
Camera
The new Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 sports a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor with 1.25um pixels, 4-axis optical stabilization, 5-piece lens, and f/2.0 aperture. It can record 4K/ 1080p video at 30fps, and 720p videos at up to 120fps. There is also a 5-megapixel front camera with for selfies and video calling.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 8 uses a dual camera setup. It combines two 12-megapixel cameras (wide-angle lens with f/1.7 aperture, dual-pixel autofocus + telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, 2x Optical Zoom) with Dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). Additional features include 4K video recording at 30 fps, Pro mode, Panorama, Slow motion, Hyperlapse, and RAW file support. The 8-megapixel front camera also comes with f/1.7 aperture and an 80-degree wide angle lens.

Features
Both handsets run Android 7.1 Nougat operating system with their own UI on top (MIUI 9 and Samsung’s TouchWiz UI). Apart from standard options, the Galaxy Note 8 also carries a Bixby AI assistant (with a dedicated Bixby button) and S-Pen feature. It comes with a full set of customizable Edge Panels and Air Commands with S-Pen functionality.
Design and Display
The normal Mi MIX 2 features a metallic frame and a ceramic back, while the special edition sports ceramic unibody design. Both editions feature a 18K PVD rose gold-coated camera rim. The new handset features 12-percent smaller bottom bezel than the Mi MIX. It measures 151.8 x 75.5 x 7.7mm and weighs 185 grams. The Xiaomi device sports a 5.99-inch display with a 2,160 x 1,080pixels resolution, 403ppi pixel density, a DCI-P3 color gamut, and 18:9 aspect ratio.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 sports a 6.3-inch super AMOLED display (18.5:9 aspect ratio) with QHD+ resolution. It retains the 2:1 Infinity Display of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, with a narrow top and bottom bezels with no side edges. The Note 8 is larger and heavier at 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6mm and 195g, respectively.
Both smartphones feature a fingerprint scanner on the back.

Both smartphones feature significant improvements over their predecessors. The stunning devices offer a great combo of specs and features. While the Xiaomi Mi MIx 2 is hard to get in terms of availability, the Galaxy Note 8 bears a huge price tag. On paper, both devices seem to offer competent performance.
