Now you can officially download Instagram Reels from the app itself. You no longer need a third-party app for this. The Met-owned platform is rolling out the new update now.
The new feature was announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri through his Instagram broadcast channel. It is already rolling out to US users.
The Download option is available at the bottom menu along with Add to Story, Share, Copy Link, and other options.
In a nutshell, the new feature will allow you to download and share Reels on other platforms. They will be stored in your camera roll.

How To Download Instagram Reels From Public Accounts
- Open the Instagram Reel you want to download.
- Next, tap on the share icon and select the Download option.
- Now, your Reel will be saved on your smartphone.
- Check the camera roll to find the downloaded Reel.
- That’s it!
Note: You cannot download Reels shared by private accounts. Also, users with public accounts can turn off the ability to download Reels in the app settings. So others can’t download their Reels.
The downloaded Reels feature an Instagram logo along with the account name. However, you can download your own Reels from drafts without a watermark.
