Instagram Reels are one of the most popular video formats on social media. The up to 60-90 sec Reels are prominently featured on the Instagram Explore Page as well.

While the Meta-owned app allows users to remix publicly shared Instagram Reels, it does not offer an option to download them. However, now you can use a workaround within the mobile app. You don’t need any third-party apps or software for this.

Instagram allows all users to share Reels in their Stories. You can use this feature to download Reels as well. Here’s how:

How To Download Instagram Reels Directly From Mobile App

• Open the Instagram app on your smartphone.
• Now, select a Reel you want to save and tap on the Share icon.
• Then. tap to add the Reel to your story.
• Next, zoom the preview Click on the three-dot menu on the top and hit Save.
• That’s it! Discard the story.

Now, you will be able to access the downloaded Reel from your camera roll. While there will be no watermark, it will show the account user name.

NOTE

The new feature works on both Android devices and iPhones. However, you can not download Instagram Reels shared from private accounts. Public accounts can also turn off the ability to download Reels in the app settings.

Additionally, Instagram head Adam Mosseri has announced that US users will soon be able to download Reels shared by public accounts. The Download option will be added in the bottom menu (next to Add to Story, Share, and Copy Link).
