Predictive-text input is a feature that helps a smartphone user see a list of words that closely match whatever he is typing on the keyboard and then choose the desired word without writing the whole text. The feature is useful for newcomers to the typing world but for people who are quite used to it, the predictions only eat up screen space and serve no other useful purpose. This feature is available in all Android smartphones available today and can be disabled/enabled as per requirement.
The following screenshot shows an Android compose message screen when predictive-text input is enabled.
Steps to disable predictive text input on Android
Step 1: Go to Android homescreen and click Menu button. The menu will pop up.
Step 2: Click Settings from the menu. Settings screen will open.
Step 3: Scroll down till you see Language and Input. Click on it.
Step 4: Under Language and Input, click on the small gear icon besides the keyboard that you are currently using (Default)
Step 5: You will see that the slider besides Predictive text is turned on.
Step 6: Slide it towards the left or the off position.
Step 7: Click home button and come to the home screen of Android. Go to messaging app (or any app where text input is required) and compose a message. You will see that no text predictions are available now and the space has been freed up for better viewing.
