Micromax launched two handsets recently out of their wide ranging portfolio. One of them is their flagship model Micromax Canvas 4 whereas the other one is their phablet device Micromax Canvas Doodle 2. We have reviewed both Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 and Micromax Canvas 4 and now we have a heads-on comparison to prove the best.
Design:
Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 looks an enlarged Canvas 4 from the front with nearly the same build and design. At the back Doodle 2 has an aluminium finish design with only the upper part removable to insert the SIM cards whereas the Canvas 4 has a glossy finish on its body. The edges on both the handsets have the exactly same placement of buttons and are fairly accessible.
Display:
The 5.7-inch compared to 5-inch display is just okay being honest. Both of them have an HD display with 720×1280 pixels resolution which gives decent viewing angles and color reproduction with average brightness levels. We found them to be slightly better on the 5-inch screen of the Canvas 4.
Camera:
Camera on the Canvas Doodle 2 has the capability to click pictures up to 12MP that is 4000х3000 pixels, It comes with a dual LED flash and autofocus feature. The Doodle 2 also has a 5MP front-facing camera. On the other hand, Canvas 4 has a 13MP camera and the same 5MP front-facing camera which gives comparable results. Both the rear cameras can shoot videos up to 1080p@30fps so theres nothing much to be talked about.
Hardware:
Canvas Doodle 2 and Canvas 4 both of them features the same MediaTek MT6589 processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM. Both have 16GB internal memory but the Doodle 2 does not support any kind of expandable storage via external cards whereas the Canavs 4 has a plus point giving the users to expand their memory storage. Both support dual sim standby and are powered by 2600mAh non-removable battery and 2000mAh removable battery respectively. They come with the usual WiFi/Bluetooth/3G functionality alike every other smartphone.
Software:
Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 and Canvas 4 runs on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system and has been least customized when compared with the vanilla rom. There are few applications which comes-preinstalled Micromax stuff to enhance the user experience. There are some apps especially made for the stylus in case of Doodle 2.
Price:
Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 comes for Rs. 19,990 in India and Micromax Canvas 4 comes for about Rs. 18,000 in India through leading reatil stores and there is no price difference between them.
Conclusion:
Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 is an average device if you ask us. During our testing period we find the device to peform fairly well alike every other MediaTek chipset handset. The primary USP of the device is the stylus which comes with dual tips and the large screen for utilizing that it. Micromax Canvas 4 packs a 5-inch provides a more handy solution with the power of Android. Canavs 4 won’t be having a stylus neither a free magnetic flip cover which are there on Doodle 2 and it depends on you if you use it or not. According to us, Micromax Canvas 4 is a better option to buy because of its size and performance. If you are looking for a big screen handset you can consider Doodle 2 as an option because it ain’t that bad.
