Asus launched its Asus Zenfone 2 Laser smartphone in India in August 2015 for Rs. 9,999. As the name suggests, the highlight of this phone is its laser auto focus system. But is that all what is required by buyers in market nowadays? Does is offer seamless performance? Is is worth buying?

The Zenfone 2 Laser takes its design cues from the Zenfone 2 smartphone. The rear of the phone is slightly curved for better grip. The phone hands comfortable while holding in hand.
On the front, there is a 5.5-inch HD display with 1280×720 pixels resolution. The color quality, viewing angles, sunlight legibility and brightness of the screen is good. The Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protects it against scratches.
Above the display, there is earpiece, 5 mega pixel front facing camera, sensor and LED indicator.
Below the display there are three touch capacitive buttons and a metallic strip with reflective concentric circles pattern.
Top edge houses 3.5mm audio jack, power button and secondary microphone for noise cancellation.
USB port and microphone are located on the bottom edge.
Both left and right edges are clean. The right edge however houses a groove for removing back panel.
On the rear of the phone, there is 13 mega pixel primary camera at the centre on top, dual LED flash on the left and laser focus on the right. Volume rocker and Asus branding are located below the camera
Speakers are located on the rear bottom of the device below Zenfone branding.
The rear panel of the device is removable and gives access to 3000mAh battery, two SIM card slots and a microSD card slot.
The Zenfone 2 Laser sports a 13 mega pixel rear camera with laser auto focus, dual LED flash and f/2.0 aperture.
There is also a 5 mega pixel front facing camera. The color reproduction, detailing and clarity of images is pretty impressive. Image quality of the shots taken by this phone in low light is also good.
On software front, it runs Android 5.0 Lollipop wrapped under ZenUI. There are several new features like kids mode, double tap to unlock and gesture support. It comes with a lot of bloatware which can not be removed. The interface is easy to use and offers several customization options to users.
As for performance, the device is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 paired with 2GB of RAM. It gets slightly heated up while playing heavy games. Its shows slight lags while multi tasking as well. There is 16GB of internal memory onboard which is expandable using microSD card. Backed up by a 3000mAh battery, the device can survive for up to one day on moderate usage.

While the highlight of the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser is its laser auto focus system, the specifications of the device are not very impressive. But that is what you expect from a budget smartphone which is priced under Rs. 10,000. If your primary use is not gaming and you are looking a smartphone in sub-Rs. 10,000 price range with best rear camera then Zenfone 2 Laser is worth putting your bet on.
