Apple has unveiled the much-awaited new iPhone 2018 lineup. The new iPhone models come with dual-SIM support. The company also announced the next Apple Watch Series 4. The Apple iPhone Xs is priced at $999 (approx Rs 71,800) for the 64GB internal storage variant. While the 256GB model costs $1,149 (approx Rs 82,600), the 512GB variant comes with a price tag of $1,349 (approx Rs 97,000).

On the other hand, the Apple iPhone Xs Max comes with a price tag of $1,099 (approx Rs 79,000) for the 64GB storage variant. While the 256GB variant costs $1,249 (approx Rs 89,800), the 512GB model is priced at $1,449 (approx Rs 1,04,200).

In India, the iPhone Xs price starts at Rs 99,900 for the 64GB storage variant. The 256GB and 512GB models are priced at Rs 1,14,900 and Rs 1,34,900, respectively. Whereas the iPhone Xs Max costs Rs 1,09,900, Rs 1,24,900, and Rs 1,44,900 for the 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage variants, respectively.

Both models will be available for pre-orders from September 14. Shipping starts on September 21. The new handsets come in three color options – Gold, Space Grey, and Silver.

The new models are powered by Apple’s latest A12 Bionic processor (touted as the first processor with a 7nm process). The hexa-core processor includes 2 performance cores (up to 15 percent faster and 40 percent lower power), and 4 efficiency cores (up to 50 percent lower power).

While the iPhone Xs gets an extra 30 minutes of battery life (compared to iPhone X), the iPhone Xs Max gets an extra 1 hour 30 minutes. The new handsets come with Type-A to Lightning 5W charger for the power adaptor. Unlike last time, the 3.5mm-to-Lightning dongle will not be included in the box. Both devices support wireless charging.

Camera

The new iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max get new upgraded cameras. The dual camera setup (on the back) combines a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor (f/1.8 aperture) and a 12-megapixel telephoto secondary sensor (f/2.4 aperture). Camera features include a 6-element lens, 2x optical zoom, and an improved TrueTone quad-LED flash.

On the front, both smartphones sport a 7-megapixel RGB camera sensor with a f/2.2 aperture.

Instead of a Touch ID feature, the new handsets come with improved Face ID. It uses infrared and dot projector technology along with a proprietary hardware and algorithm. Apple claims that the new Face ID is the ‘most secure facial authentication ever in a smartphone.’

The new iPhone models come with support for dual-SIM and dual standby (DSDS). Both models use an eSIM instead of the second SIM. However, in China, the iPhone Xs Max units will support two physical SIMs.

Additionally, Apple announced that the new iPhone models support Gigabit-class LTE speeds. Both the Apple iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max run iOS 12 out-of-the-box.

Design

The iPhone Xs sports a 5.8-inch OLED Super Retina with a resolution of 1125 x 2234 pixels. It comes with the same notch as last year’s iPhone X. On the other hand, the Apple iPhone Xs Max sports a 6.5-inch OLED Super Retina display with a resolution of 1242 x 2688 pixels.

Both smartphones sport a stainless steel body with glass casing on both sides (similar to the iPhone X) and glass back panel. These are the first iPhone models to feature IP68 rating (water and dust resistance). Both models get a new gold color option.

At its annual launch event, Apple announced new iPhone models – the iPhone Xs, and iPhone Xs Max. The company also announced a cheaper iPhone XR model along with the next generation of its wearable – Apple Watch Series 4.

Additionally, the tech giant claimed that the iPhone is the ‘number 1 smartphone in the world’ with a 98 percent customer satisfaction rate. It also touted the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max lineup as ‘the most advanced iPhone we have ever created.’
