A new 9to5Google report has led to speculations that tech giant Google is currently working on completely reprocessing Android’s navigation bar with gesture support in Android P. So it is at least 99% obvious that Android P will embrace certain iPhone X gestures. It is already known that it will also sport the notch.
The report doesn’t talk about an exact number of gestures. But it does mention one gesture (swipe up from the bottom to bring out multitasking/recently opened apps), which is currently being worked on. Google has already confirmed the notch. Android P will be equipped with it, but even iPhone X-like gestures may be there. Android P will mainly be for big, bezel-less screens. Getting rid of the navigation bar should be their top priority.

Google allegedly already shared the information (regarding the report) by accident on its official Android Developers Blog. It was through a screenshot. The screenshot displayed a redesigned navigation bar with minimal keys. The back key will only appear whenever needed, other it won’t be there. There was a pill-shaped key in the centre. Probably a marker, it will be for guiding users into swiping up from the bottom. The 9to5Google report doesn’t mention if the button is just a market. It is in contrast to the current circular button in Android 8.1 Oreo. The screenshot has been edited by Google to eliminate the navigation bar. Gestures aren’t new in Android smartphones. Some companies like Oppo and Xiaomi already have some of their devices equipped with such capabilities. Xiaomi offers gesture support through MIUI 9 (based on Android Nougat). They all are all iPhone X inspired.

This is a move which can be seen as Google trying to edge Apple out of the contest. The company is rumoured to make more Android P information public soon enough.
