Amazon Alexa App is now available in India for both Android and iOS users. The new app helps you set up your Echo device. Recently, the e-commerce giant launched it Echo devices in the country (shipping starts later this week). India is the fourth market (after the US, the UK, and Germany) to officially receive Amazon Alexa and its smart speakers. The Alexa App will offer access to India-specific skills. The Amazon Echo is now available in India. However, to set it up you will need the Alexa app. It can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
The Amazon Alexa app allows you to add new skills, changing settings quickly, and monitor your previous requests. You can also see what’s playing, and create new routines. Additionally, the app allows you to go through your to-do list while shopping. You can create such lists with help of a voice assistant. The Echo speakers can also perform tasks like reading out the news, or ordering a cab among other things. Amazon claims that there are already 10,000 skills available in India.
India-specific skills
You can set up your device to deliver updates on local weather and traffic. During setup, you can choose from English (India) as a language option and switch your residence address to India. Amazon has also partnered with local companies and brands to offers India-specific skills. This includes Ola, Saavn, Sportskeeda, Syska, NDTV, and Times of India. The music options include Amazon Music, Saavn, and TuneIn.

Amazon Echo Speakers
The Amazon Echo is the first Smart Speaker to launch in India. The Echo Dot is currently available on Amazon India at Rs 3,149 (MRP is Rs 4,499). The Amazon Echo is being offered by Amazon at Rs 6,999 as an introductory offer (MRP is Rs 9,999). You can get the Echo Plus with a built-in smart home hub at Rs 10,499 (MRP is Rs 14,999).

Conclusion
With Alexa and Echo smart speakers, Amazon plans to get a lead in the smart speakers market. The company will compete against Google Assistant-powered Google Home and Apple’s Siri-powered HomePod. The company also plans to launch Amazon Prime Music (music streaming service) in India. We will have to wait and see how this new segment pans out.
