Recently, Airtel became the first telco to demonstrate 5G over a LIVE commercial network in India. This was tested in the city of Hyderabad.
Now, it has announced that Qualcomm 5G RAN platforms will be used to roll-out virtualized and Open RAN-based 5G networks.
O-RAN is a flexible and scalable architecture that is considered useful to help small and medium-sized businesses to become viable players in the deployment of 5G networks.
Additionally, Airtel and Qualcomm Technologies will work together to offer a wide array of use cases. This includes 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) that offers broadband connectivity at Gigabit speeds to homes and business.

The Qualcomm 5G Fixed Wireless Access Platform supports any combination of 5G spectrum bands and modes, from extended-range high power sub-6 to extended-range mmWave.
Airtel will utilize the capabilities of these platforms to develop 5G applications for Industry 4.0 use cases. FWA services will be able to deliver multi-gigabit Internet speeds wirelessly to customers.
In a nutshell, thanks to the ultra-fast and low latency of 5G, customers will be getting gigabit size file downloads in seconds and 4K video streaming on the go. Also, immersive technologies like Virtual Reality and SMART Homes with connected things.

On the other hand, Qualcomm 5G RAN platforms are aimed to deliver cutting-edge technology for virtualized, flexible, and interoperable 5G infrastructure.
