Samsung and Apple are battling it out for the top place in the tablet segment globally but that’s a battle which can be played only in countries like the United States. We Indians are a bit under the budget constraints which are the primary reasons for the success of the tablets from the Indian electronics manufacturers. And to beat the Indian companies at their own game, has entered a global giant, Acer with their latest budget offering Acer Iconica B1 tablet.

And finally the time has come when we can lay our hands on this budget device. The Acer Iconica B1 is being made available officially in India at a pricetag of Rs.8,199 which pits it right against the offerings from Micromax and Karbonn. The device has by no means budget specs and is prety well equipped as it comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a 1.2 GHz dual core processor.

The spec sheet is pretty much at par with competition and a MNC offering these specs at the prices of Indian tablets will surely swing the pendulum in Acer’s favour. It comes with 8 GB of internal memory and the memory can be expanded by 32 GB via a microSD card. The 7 incher comes with a capacity display resolution of 1024×600 pixels. The RAM is 512 MB and the processor is a Mediatek Unit which shall give it decent performance and seeing the price tag, you can’t really expect out of the performance either.

Connectivity package is completed by Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi and GPS and there’s a front VGA camera for video calling as well. The device will draw juice from a 2710 mAh battery which Acer claims will last for 8 hours but real world battery life would be slightly lower than the claimed figure. The device is globally available for $149 which pretty much converts into the price that Acer is asking you to pay for it in India. Micromax was slowly closing in on Samsung in the tablet game and now it will have to watch its back as well.
