Acer has launched two new Chromebooks with a fingerprint sensor and sturdy metallic build. The Acer Chromebook 714 is priced at $549 (approx Rs 38,000) for the 8GB RAM/ 32GB internal storage variant. It will be available in the EMEA region with a starting price of EUR 549 (approx Rs 43,000).
On the other hand, the Acer Chromebook 715 comes at a starting price of $499 (approx Rs 34,000). It will be available in the EMEA region at EUR 599 (approx Rs 47,000 ) for the base variant (8GB RAM, 32GB storage).
As of now, there is no information about the Indian price or launch date.

Both new Chromebooks are powered by up to an 8th Gen Intel Core i5 processor along with 8GB/ 16GB RAM and 32GB/ 64GB/ 128GB eMMC storage (expandable via a microSD card). Lower-end models come with Intel Celeron and Pentium Gold processors.
In terms of battery life, both the Acer Chromebook 715 and Chromebook 714 can last up to 12 hours on a single charge.

Both devices run new Chrome OS and support for Google Chrome Enterprise solutions. You can also get Android apps from the Google Play Store. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.2, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, two USB 3.1 Type-C ports, and a USB 3.0 port. Additionally, the Citrix certification promises compatibility with a wide range of networking and cloud computing solutions.
While the Acer Chromebook 715 sports a 15.6-inch full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) IPS display, the Acer Chromebook 714 comes with a smaller 14-inch full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) IPS display. Both the laptops come in touch and non-touch sensitive display variants.
The highly durable devices can withstand drops from a height of up to 48 inches and a vertical force of up to 60kg. The shock-proof anodized aluminum chassis comes with MIL-STD 810G durability certification.
Additionally, the touchpad is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. It is also claimed to be scratch and moisture resistant. The Acer Chromebook 715 is the first Chromebook to feature a full-size numeric keypad. It also comes with a backlit keyboard.
For security, both Chromebooks come with an integrated fingerprint scanner.
