Gionee India has launched the Gionee Elife S5.5, the world’s slimmest phone in India at a launch event in Goa on 31 March 2014. In this article we share with you our first impressions, hands on review video, price, specifications, features and other phones in this segment which pose competition to Gionee Elife S5.5.
The USP of the S5.5 is its slim profile, it is just 5.5 mm slim which makes it as slim as just a couple of coins put together. In terms of specifications, the Gionee Elife S5.5 powered by an Octacore 1.7 GHz processor, has 2GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, a 5 inch full HD 1080p display whcih is a super AMOLED panel for brilliant colours.

Gionee Elife S5.5 has been launched at Rs. 22,999 and will go on sale from 27th April across India.

Gionee Elife S5.5 is a slim and sleek unibody design phone with gorilla glass at both front and rear. The phone looks fairly premium and classy with the kind of build quality it has. It has been made out of single piece of metal with machining process. It feel solid and well built and nice to hold.

The edges or the phone are not as rounded as the Gionee Elife E7. The design language is more rectangular here and feels more sharp, however it isn’t as sharp to hurt.
For superior sound quality, Gionee has included as secondary noise cancellation microphone in the phone which is next to the rear camera module. The camera is fairly capable and comes with LED flash for superior pictures in low light.
Overall, we find the phone to be fairly premium and high end when it comes to display, performance, camera and overall specifications.

All these 4 phones- the Elife S5.5, Canvas Knight, Karbonn Octane+ (and octane) and Gionee Elife E7 Mini are all powered by Mediatek Octacore processor family and comes with HD and Full HD display offerings. All these phones have 1 to 2 GB of RAM, all of these are prices in a range of 18,000 to Rs. 25,000.

In terms of performance, the phones are very close as the underlying processors are same, but when it comes to overall feel of the products, they have very different form factor and build quality. Also the camera features on these phones are also very different.

In terms of sleekness, Gionee Elife S5.5 is slimmest followed by the Karbonn Octane+ then the Canvas Knight and then the Elife E7 mini.

In terms of camera, the Octane+ and Canvas Knight have 16 MP rear cameras and 8 MP front camera which is highest among these 4 phones. Gionee Elife S5.5 comes with a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera; and the Elife E7 mini comes with a 13 MP rotating camera with LED flash which is both front and rear camera.
Among all these phones, we find the Gionee Elife S5.5 to be most premium in terms of build and looks, in terms of camera, the Canvas Knight and Elife E7 mini are on top, in terms of display, the Elife S5.5 is among the best with full HD AMOLED display followed by Canvas Knight and Octane+.
Conclusion
Out of these 4 phones, we find Gionee Elife S5.5 to be most appealing phone among these phones followed by Micromax Canvas Knight and Karbonn Octane+ followed by Gionee Elife E7 mini.
